About the position

The Budget Analyst position at the California Public Employees' Retirement System (CalPERS) is a full-time role focused on financial planning, policy, and budgeting. The analyst will serve as the primary contact for budget-related inquiries and will be responsible for maintaining financial oversight, preparing budget estimates, and ensuring compliance with budgetary controls. Responsibilities

  • Serve as the primary Budget Office contact and subject matter expert for assigned program areas related to financial inquiries, funding/position requests, and issues.
  • Maintain the Customer Touch Point system to track division funding/position requests and FPPB management's approved changes.
  • Prepare quarterly projection personnel cost estimates and analyze division's operating expense projections for reasonableness, areas of concern, and budget adherence.
  • Provide budget oversight and internal control to ensure availability of funds prior to contract, purchase order, encumbrance, blanket requests, and position change requests.
  • Utilize PeopleSoft Financial, E-Pro, and HCM systems to research, analyze, and gather data required in developing Financial Management Reports and CalPERS' Annual and Mid-year Budget Books.
  • Prepare programs' operational budgets, analyze Formal Budget Requests for CalPERS, and prepare Executive Summaries for the Annual Budget Process.

Requirements

  • Mid-level experience in budgeting and financial analysis.
  • Proficiency in PeopleSoft Financial, E-Pro, and HCM systems.
