About the position

The Budget Analyst position with the Hawaiʻi State Senate Ways and Means Committee is a temporary, full-time role focused on analyzing and evaluating state government budgets and funding requests. The role is critical in supporting the committee's operations and involves preparing recommendations, generating legislative materials, and maintaining professional relationships with stakeholders. This position is available from December to May, requiring flexibility in working hours, including evenings and weekends.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct in-depth analysis of budget-related documents, including request forms, budget journals, and vacancy reports.
  • Prepare recommendations for the WAM Committee Chair on budget requests for assigned departments and agencies.
  • Generate and proofread essential Legislative materials such as budget bills, committee reports, and budget worksheets.
  • Assist with committee management tasks, including proofreading materials and responding to inquiries from Committee members.
  • Build and maintain professional relationships with department heads, administrators, and other stakeholders.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent required; bachelor's degree preferred.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Strong analytical and research skills.
  • Excellent communication abilities.
  • Ability to handle confidential information with care and discretion.
  • Commitment to ethical principles and integrity in all interactions.

Nice-to-haves

  • Prior legislative experience in the State of Hawaiʻi.
  • Experience in a state department or agency.
