About the position

The Budget Analyst at the University of North Texas - Dallas plays a crucial role in supporting campus departments with budget-related guidance and financial planning. This position is responsible for developing departmental budget reports, analyzing expense data, forecasting expenditures, and advising on potential over-expenditures. The analyst works under the supervision of the Associate Budget Director and contributes to the effective management of the university's financial resources.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in the preparation of the annual operating budget and various external documents.
  • Perform technical work involving independent judgment and understanding of departmental functions.
  • Update and recommend changes for Budget Office procedure documents and facilitate budget training for campus departments.
  • Review and resolve budget error statuses for journals, vouchers, and purchase orders.
  • Process routine monthly budget transfers, journal entries, and approve ePars.
  • Research and resolve fund balance deficits for campus departments.
  • Provide guidance on cost analysis, fiscal allocation, and budget preparation.
  • Process Financial Aid State Programs reconciliations monthly and draw direct lending weekly.
  • Assist in developing budgeting and reporting software for the Budget Office.
  • Prepare routine budget reconciliations and communicate results with the Associate Budget Director.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in business, accounting, or a related field.
  • Two years of experience working with budget-related information or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Considerable knowledge of university operating procedures and policies.
  • Ability to work accurately with numerical detail and perform financial operations legibly.
  • Experience managing budget information and recording financial transactions accurately.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to establish effective working relationships.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience using PeopleSoft, Axiom, Golden, Cognos, and reporting tools.
  • Advanced experience using Microsoft Excel.
  • Experience working in higher education or Texas state agencies.
