About the position

The Budget Analyst position at the Department of the Interior involves managing and analyzing budgetary processes for the R1-Branch of Fire Management in Portland, Oregon. The role requires the preparation of fund allocation charts, monitoring fiscal records, and ensuring compliance with financial regulations. The analyst will work closely with various stakeholders to support fire suppression and cost-share agreements, while also formulating and executing budgets for assigned areas of responsibility.

Responsibilities

  • Prepares fund allocation charts, tables, and summaries with detailed instructions regarding the use of funds.
  • Develops and supports fire suppression and cost-share agreements with state, county, and local partners.
  • Monitors overall budget status and fiscal records management of funds, including documentation required by DOI's Financial and Business Management System (FBMS).
  • Responsible for the formulation, execution, monitoring, and reconciliation of the current and prior year budgets for assigned areas of responsibility.
  • Formulates and establishes effective control procedures to ensure no deficits are incurred in any appropriation and obligations do not exceed the approved apportionment.

Requirements

  • Must be a U.S. Citizen or National.
  • One year of specialized experience comparable in scope and responsibility equivalent to grade GS-11 in the Federal service.
  • Experience in compiling data on program expenditures for presentations and reports.
  • Experience in reviewing and monitoring obligations and expenditures to ensure compliance.
  • Experience in compiling and submitting cost documentation packages.
  • Experience in formulating and discussing budget plans, estimates, and justifications for management officials.
