About the position

The Budget Analyst position at Pender County Schools is responsible for monitoring departmental spending to ensure compliance with the budget. This role supports the development and amendment of the annual budget in collaboration with department directors and assists in conducting cost-benefit analyses. The analyst will also review budget transfer requests and perform monthly desk reviews of departmental budgets, ensuring all fiscal requirements are met.

Responsibilities

• Monitor spending from all departments to ensure budget compliance.
• Support the development of the budget and budget amendments in collaboration with department Directors.
• Assist department Directors with cost-benefit analyses to determine value and need.
• Review and approve department-level budget transfer requests to ensure compliance with restrictions and requirements.
• Complete a monthly desk review of all departmental budgets.
• Conduct monthly budget analysis and projections including position allotment reconciliations and expense forecasts.
• Handle invoicing and budget processes for contract substitute vendors.
• Assist with School Nutrition profit and loss analysis and the E-rate process.
• Pre-audit all requisitions, invoices, and proposed contracts for budgetary compliance.
• Assist with internal and external reporting as needed.

Requirements

• Associate degree or equivalent with coursework in accounting and math.
• Three to five years of bookkeeping experience or equivalent training/experience.
• Intermediate knowledge of Excel, including basic formulas and pivot tables.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills.
• Ability to work with a high degree of accuracy on a tight timeline.
• Knowledge of school system operations and procedures.
