The Chatham County - Savannah Metropolitan Planning Commission is seeking qualified applicants for the position of Bookkeeper/Budget Analyst. The primary purpose of this position is to provide comprehensive financial accounting, bookkeeping, and analytical duties that support the sound financial management of the MPC's operations. This role involves performing professional analytical work that includes identifying, defining, analyzing, and recommending solutions to budgetary and operational concerns across various departments, including those funded by enterprise operations. Successful performance in this position is crucial for the provision of accurate and timely fiscal plans, which are essential for the effective functioning of the organization. Key responsibilities include participating in the data collection, compilation, and organization of budget documentation, as well as monitoring the approved budget by tracking expenditures and comparing them to authorized limits. The Budget Analyst will also participate in the preparation of status reports, review, investigate, and approve budget-related forms. Maintaining the annual budget and chart of accounts is a critical aspect of this role, along with preparing budget analysis and feasibility analyses. The analyst will be responsible for preparing periodic reports of operations for management and performing cost-benefit analyses to compare various operating programs. Additionally, the position requires the ability to present data in a coherent manner, whether orally, in writing, or through graphic representation. General bookkeeping duties are also part of the job, which includes posting information to accounting software and regularly reconciling accounts. The Budget Analyst may assist in monitoring compliance with applicable grants to ensure adherence to state and federal requirements and regulations. Serving as a budgetary liaison with the City of Savannah, Chatham County, and grant administration to resolve any issues or concerns is also a key responsibility. The ideal candidate will possess strong organizational skills to maintain financial records and files effectively, along with a solid understanding of bookkeeping and accounting principles.
