About the position

The Budget and Policy Analyst position within the Budget Planning and Legislation Unit at the New York State Division of the Budget (DOB) is designed for individuals who are motivated analysts and critical thinkers. This role involves working on the development, negotiation, and implementation of the state's budget, which is one of the largest in the country. Analysts will engage in creative problem-solving and comprehensive communication to address emerging challenges and ensure the fiscal health of the state.

Responsibilities

• Interact with staff at all levels throughout DOB, State Agencies and Authorities, the Governor's Office, and the Legislature.
• Draft recommendations and materials to guide decision-making, including articulating nuanced issues, illustrating trends and projections, and synthesizing data.
• Plan and schedule for the development of the Executive Budget through its enactment, including producing the Executive Budget appropriation bills and publications.
• Coordinate the budget planning process and develop and implement solutions to improve such processes.
• Oversee, maintain, and provide user support for various DOB webpages and applications.
• Aid internal stakeholders on specific procedural and other technical questions.

Requirements

• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Outstanding written and oral communication abilities.
• Fluency in Excel formulas and functions, and other Microsoft applications.
• Ability to work both independently and collaboratively with diverse stakeholders.
• Self-starters with independent problem-solving skills, including the ability to research, understand and clarify complex issues and requirements.
