About the position

The Budget and Policy Analyst position within the Public Protection Unit at the New York State Division of the Budget (DOB) is designed for individuals who are motivated analysts and critical thinkers. This role involves developing, negotiating, and implementing one of the largest government budgets in the country, focusing on fiscal health and public policy. Analysts will work on a variety of issues related to the State Liquor Authority, the Alcoholic Beverage Control Board, and the State Legislature, providing an opportunity to gain valuable expertise in government finance and management.

Responsibilities

  • Developing in-depth knowledge of program areas, including detailed analysis of broader trends such as policy, budgetary, and economic trends.
  • Drafting recommendations and materials to guide decision-making, articulating nuanced issues, and synthesizing data.
  • Managing the State's Financial Plan by projecting and monitoring spending trends and identifying challenges.
  • Participating in the development and implementation of programs related to the alcoholic beverage industry.

Requirements

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Outstanding written and oral communication abilities.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively with diverse stakeholders.
  • Fluency in Excel formulas and functions, and other Microsoft applications.
  • Independently evaluate complex proposals and identify core fiscal and programmatic issues.
