About the position

The Budget/Finance Consultant position at Insight Global is a remote role focused on providing expert consulting services in accounting, budgeting, and financial management. The consultant will work primarily with government financial management processes, aiming to standardize and improve financial operations while ensuring compliance with relevant standards and policies. This role requires strong analytical skills and the ability to communicate effectively with clients regarding financial reporting and process improvements.

Responsibilities

  • Support the development of the annual Presidential Budget submission in collaboration with stakeholders.
  • Perform a gap analysis of the As-Is financial processes to the future state using project tools and document the gaps and risks identified.
  • Identify inefficient processes and document recommendations for process improvement.
  • Create risk assessments to identify and prioritize financial risks, recommending and implementing risk mitigation strategies.
  • Review key accounting standards to ensure compliance with policy and controls.
  • Develop Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) within all functional areas of finance.
  • Support the development of financial internal controls to enhance audit readiness assessments.
  • Facilitate in-person and remote workgroup meetings with successful mediation practices.
  • Communicate with clients on work products, including corrective action recommendations and financial reporting trends.

Requirements

  • 4-6 years of experience in budgeting and financial management consulting.
  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Finance, Accounting, or a related field.
  • Familiarity with federal budget formulation and execution processes.
  • Experience with financial statement reporting and financial management consulting.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with government financial management processes.
  • Familiarity with accounting standards such as TFM, USSGL, FASAB, and GAO standards.
