About the position

The Sheriff's Office is seeking highly-motivated and experienced candidates for the Budget Management Analyst position. This role is designed to enhance your budget and performance management skills while engaging in a variety of challenging projects and initiatives for the Sheriff's Department. Successful candidates will possess experience in public administration and finance, demonstrating self-motivation, analytical prowess, strategic thinking, and attention to detail. The ability to solve business problems and deliver insights that facilitate timely and effective operational decision-making is crucial. The Sheriff's Office Budget Unit, part of the Fiscal Services Bureau, is responsible for developing and monitoring a substantial $300 million budget, as well as assisting in the development, monitoring, and reporting of the Sheriff's Office Performance Measures. Management Analysts in this role will perform a wide range of complex analytical and administrative support activities, providing high-level support to Directors and Managers. Ideal candidates will be knowledgeable in advanced principles and practices of public administration and program management, capable of accurately analyzing complex problems, and developing practical recommendations to resolve them. Candidates should be politically astute strategic thinkers and planners, able to condense a variety of budgetary issues into detailed analytical reports. Proficiency in automated systems, particularly Excel, is essential for performing analyses and preparing reports. Effective communication skills, both verbal and written, are necessary to convey financial information to diverse audiences. Building strong relationships and partnerships through a collaborative approach is also important. The role requires quick learners who can work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment, while being open-minded, creative, and comfortable with change.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and monitor the Sheriff's Office budget and performance measures.
  • Perform complex analytical and administrative support activities.
  • Provide high-level support to Directors and Managers.
  • Analyze complex problems and develop practical recommendations.
  • Prepare detailed analytical reports on budgetary issues.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in political science, public administration/policy, business, economics, or a related field plus three years of analyst experience; or
  • Master's degree in political science, public administration/policy, business, economics, or a related field plus one year of analyst experience; or
  • Five years of analyst experience in a public agency or nonprofit setting.
  • Knowledge of project and program management, analytical processes, and report preparation techniques.
  • Ability to analyze, organize, and condense complex budgetary issues into reports.
  • Proficiency in MS Office and Adobe Suites.
