About the position

The Budget Specialist II at Florida Gulf Coast University is responsible for performing advanced budget functions, including monitoring account balances, processing budget transactions, and approving expenditures. This role primarily oversees the Activity and Service fee budget and collaborates closely with Student Government in budget creation and management.

Responsibilities

  • Monitors assigned account balances.
  • Prepares budget transfers and journal voucher transactions.
  • Monitors budget activity and ensures proper documentation and authorizations are received.
  • Reconciles accounts, researches discrepancies, and initiates correction.
  • Advises and trains customers on policies and procedures.
  • Prepares routine and ad-hoc reports and statements, including use and spending trends for the A&S fees budget.
  • Researches and responds to questions regarding budget issues.
  • Assists with budget planning, year-end closeout, and rolling of new fiscal year budgets.
  • Serves as the Cost Center Coordinator for Activity and Service Fee accounts.
  • Administers appointment paperwork requirements for Student Government OPS employees and contingent workers.
  • Participates in the Student Government Annual Budget application hearings and deliberations.
  • Attends Student Government meetings as needed and assists with budget planning, compliance, and documentation of financial activities.
  • Prepares reports and files for the Student Government Annual Budget hearings and deliberations.
  • Communicates financial status and eligibility to registered student organizations and student engagement departments.
  • Maintains record of financial reports and agreements as outlined in the Student Government Finance Code.
  • Completes budget transfers from the Activity and Service Fees account.
  • Regularly conducts training for students and staff on financial policies, processes, and the Student Government Finance Code.

Requirements

  • High school diploma and six years of full-time experience directly related to the job functions.
  • Valid driver's license.
  • Experience operating a personal computer and proficient with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and Outlook).
  • Any appropriate combination of relevant education, experience, and/or certifications may be considered.

Nice-to-haves

  • Bachelor's Degree from an accredited institution in Accounting, Business Management, Finance, or closely related field.
  • Work experience in a higher education setting.
