The Budget Technician (Office Automation) position at the Department of the Air Force involves performing clerical and technical work to support budget analysis and administration. The role requires organizing budget data, executing budget tasks, and providing customer service to program managers and accounting personnel. This position is essential for ensuring accurate financial management and compliance with budgetary guidelines.

Responsibilities

  • Perform clerical and technical work in support of budget analysis and administration.
  • Organize budget data according to appropriation account, object class, and line item code.
  • Compile resource data from various financial management reports for budget execution.
  • Establish, maintain, and update expenditures related to funding activities.
  • Ensure there is no over-obligation of funds.
  • Conduct informal studies of financial management-related procedures and processes.
  • Provide quality customer service and establish good working relationships with employees and co-workers.
  • Provide information about budget procedures to local program managers and accounting personnel.
  • Use advanced functions of word processing software to create, modify, and print various documents.
  • Utilize spreadsheets to enter, revise, sort, calculate, and retrieve data for standard reports.

Requirements

  • U.S. Citizenship is required.
  • At least one year of specialized experience at the GS-06 level or equivalent.
  • Broad knowledge of agency procedures and processes covering a wide range of budgetary transactions.
  • Ability to resolve problems such as balancing accounts and adjusting discrepancies.
  • Knowledge of automated management data systems and word processing automation software functions.
  • Skill in working accurately with figures and typing.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with financial management reports and budgetary methods.
  • Familiarity with the Department of Defense Priority Placement Program.
