About the position

The Direct Support Professional III (DSP III) at The Arc Erie County plays a crucial role in providing care and support to adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities. This position focuses on enhancing the quality of life for individuals by assisting them with daily living activities, promoting self-help skills, and facilitating recreational and community integration activities. The DSP III is responsible for ensuring safety, documenting services, and collaborating with treatment teams to develop person-centered plans.

Responsibilities

  • Assures overall safety of individuals by maintaining safety standards and familiarity with emergency procedures.
  • Intervenes in inappropriate behaviors while maintaining a safe environment.
  • Transports individuals to appointments and activities as scheduled.
  • Documents services and skill acquisitions in accordance with agency procedures.
  • Assists individuals with personal finances and shopping needs.
  • Provides first aid and addresses routine health care needs.
  • Prepares or assists with meal planning and preparation.
  • Maintains a clean and safe environment through housekeeping and minor maintenance tasks.
  • Provides input to the treatment team for person-centered planning.
  • Assists in assessing individuals' skills and behaviors.
  • Attends staff meetings, trainings, and supervisory conferences.
  • Maintains communication with supervisors and completes online training modules.
  • Assists individuals with community integration and training.
  • May be redeployed to provide necessary staffing coverage in emergencies.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Valid NYS Driver's License with an approved driving record.
  • Completion of required training including SCIP, First Aid, CPR, and Medication Certification within 90 days of hire.
  • Human Services experience preferred.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in direct support or caregiving roles.
