About the position

The City of New Orleans is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Building and Maintenance Superintendent to oversee the maintenance operations of the Juvenile Justice Center. This role involves leading a team of maintenance technicians, ensuring the efficient operation of all equipment and systems, and supervising various maintenance activities within the facility.

Responsibilities

• Planning, assigning, reviewing, and coordinating work through subordinate trade supervisors.
• Preparing schedules for preventive maintenance and giving special instructions as needed.
• Inspecting work to determine size and composition of work crews and evaluating performance against established standards.
• Directing and training staff in general maintenance and repair duties.
• Reviewing building service work orders for feasibility and estimating timetables, materials, and costs for work projects.
• Preparing specifications for maintenance and repair service contracts and large-scale building alteration projects.
• Maintaining records of work planned, in progress, and completed.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED.
• Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.
• Four years of increasingly responsible experience in general building maintenance or mechanical plant equipment maintenance.
• At least two years of supervisory experience.

Nice-to-haves
