About the position

The Building Automation and Controls Engineer at WSP USA will be responsible for designing automation control and monitoring systems for data centers. This role involves collaborating with senior engineers and multi-discipline project teams to develop specifications and drawings for control products, ensuring integration with HVAC and electrical power monitoring systems. The engineer will also engage with clients and stakeholders, contributing to project discussions and maintaining relationships.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and execute engineering tasks within projects, working independently or as part of a team.
  • Support the team during proposal design and construction stages of projects under general supervision.
  • Execute controls design for complex projects, developing drawing and specification documents for architects, contractors, and building owners.
  • Attend client meetings and contribute to discussions regarding project progress and requirements.
  • Collaborate with internal project teams and external equipment vendors to ensure project success.
  • Communicate complex control and monitoring concepts to clients and stakeholders effectively.
  • Integrate mechanical and electrical engineering requirements into facility controls and monitoring designs.
  • Maintain and develop relationships with clients, ensuring ongoing communication and support.
  • Perform all aspects of controls design, reviewing systems and drawings prior to issuance.
  • Survey and evaluate existing conditions at project sites.
  • Perform construction administration tasks as required.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering.
  • 2+ years of experience in designing control systems for commercial, industrial, or mission critical/data center buildings.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Experience with software packages including AutoCAD and Revit.
  • Knowledge of building, mechanical, electrical, and energy codes.
  • Ability to organize and present design information to project staff.
  • Attention to detail and highly organized, self-starter.
  • Ability to travel to project sites.

Nice-to-haves

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Chemical, or Computer Engineering.
  • EIT or Registered Professional Engineer (PE) certification, if applicable.
  • Experience in mission critical/data center environments is highly preferred.
  • Experience with international projects.
