About the position

The Building Automation Application Engineer I position at Mesa Energy Systems involves working with equipment vendors to ensure proper integration of mechanical and electrical systems. The role requires proficiency in identifying mechanical equipment, understanding electrical control circuits, and creating project documentation such as P&IDs and controls submittals. The engineer will also develop system graphics and control algorithms while adhering to industry standards and codes.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate communication protocols, encryption, and database requirements with equipment vendors.
  • Identify mechanical equipment on floor plans including chillers, boilers, pumps, AHUs, FCUs, VAVs, and EFs.
  • Understand basic electrical control circuits and controls networking principles.
  • Utilize Visio and/or AutoCAD proficiently.
  • Display knowledge of controls hardware and create P&IDs based on contract drawings.
  • Develop controls submittals with assistance from senior application engineers.
  • Understand installation methods, final inspection, testing, customer acceptance, and training.
  • Implement systems graphics per project scope, create control algorithms, source codes, and implement graphics.
  • Create guidelines, standards, and templates for typical projects.
  • Understand National Electric Code (NEC) requirements for control system installations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering (preferably Electrical or Mechanical) or equivalent field experience.
  • 2+ years of relevant experience, with at least 2 years in applications engineering preferred, specifically with Niagara AX/N4 - Niagara N4 Certified.
  • Knowledge of Direct Digital Controls, BACnet, MODbus, Tridium, Distech, and Delta is a plus.
  • Working knowledge of HVAC systems from unitary systems to central plants.
  • Engineering skills required include knowledge of electronics, mechanics, hydraulics, pneumatics, and computer programming.
  • Working knowledge of at least one HVAC controls system (preferably Delta, JCI, or Andover).
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Experience with control system architecture design, programming, or maintenance desired.
  • EIT or desire to obtain a PE license is a plus.
