About the position

Mesa Energy Systems, a subsidiary of EMCOR Group, Inc., is seeking a Building Automation Application Engineer I to join our team in Las Vegas, NV. As a leading provider of mechanical and electrical construction and facilities services, we pride ourselves on delivering fully integrated solutions for preventative maintenance and repair, as well as upgrading existing mechanical, electrical, and controls systems. This role is crucial in ensuring that our systems meet customer expectations through efficient economic solutions. In this position, you will work closely with equipment vendors to coordinate communication protocols, encryption, and database requirements for system integration. You will be responsible for reading and identifying mechanical equipment on floor plans, including chillers, boilers, pumps, air handling units (AHUs), fan coil units (FCUs), variable air volume (VAV) systems, and exhaust fans (EFs). A solid understanding of basic electrical control circuits and controls networking principles is essential. You will utilize software tools such as Visio and AutoCAD to create Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs) based on contract drawings. Additionally, you will develop controls submittals with guidance from senior application engineers and implement system graphics per project scope, including creating control algorithms and source codes. Your role will also involve establishing guidelines, standards, and templates for typical projects, as well as ensuring compliance with the National Electric Code (NEC) requirements for control system installations.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate communication protocols, encryption, and database requirements with equipment vendors for system integration.
  • Read and identify mechanical equipment on floor plans including chillers, boilers, pumps, AHUs, FCUs, VAVs, and EFs.
  • Understand basic electrical control circuits and controls networking principles.
  • Utilize Visio and/or AutoCAD to create P&IDs based on contract drawings.
  • Develop controls submittals with assistance from senior application engineers.
  • Implement systems graphics per project scope, create control algorithms, and source codes.
  • Create guidelines, standards, and templates for typical projects.
  • Understand simple installation methods, final inspection, testing, customer acceptance, and training.
  • Display knowledge of controls hardware and HVAC systems from unitary systems to central plants.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering (preferably Electrical or Mechanical) or equivalent field experience.
  • 2+ years of relevant experience, with at least 2 years in applications engineering preferred, specifically with Niagara AX/N4 - Niagara N4 Certified.
  • Knowledge of Direct Digital Controls, BACnet, MODbus, Tridium, Distech, and Delta is a plus.
  • Working knowledge of HVAC systems from unitary systems to central plants.
  • Engineering skills required include knowledge of electronics, mechanics, hydraulics, pneumatics, and computer programming.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Experience with control system architecture design, programming, or maintenance is desired.
  • EIT or desire to obtain a PE license is a plus.
