The Building Automation System (BAS) Estimator plays a crucial role in supporting the BAS corporate department, particularly in meeting assigned annual sales quotas. This position involves operational and administrative support, working closely with management, administrative staff, sales and proposal generation teams, and BAS construction operation teams. The ideal candidate is a self-motivated professional with a technical background and a strong desire to pursue a career in sales, as this is a customer-facing role that requires excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate effectively with various stakeholders. Key responsibilities include reviewing and analyzing BAS project contract documents, attending site visits, performing project take-offs, and generating cost proposals. The BAS Estimator will also develop and maintain relationships with vendors and suppliers, manage bids and pricing from subcontractors, and support the BAS construction team as a customer liaison. This role requires a proactive approach to generating new sales leads and ensuring that all project requirements are met, ultimately contributing to the overall success of the company.

Responsibilities

  • Reviewing and analyzing BAS project contract documents, plans, and specifications to understand project requirements for developing sales estimates.
  • Attending site visits/walk-throughs to perform BAS project take-offs, material and labor estimates, and generate cost proposals.
  • Developing and maintaining relationships with company BAS vendors and suppliers.
  • Managing bids and pricing from subcontractors and vendors as required.
  • Maintaining required estimating software (bidtracer) and data for preparation of company estimates.
  • Developing rapport and maintaining working relationships with assigned owners, end-users, consulting engineering firms, general contractors, design/build firms, and mechanical contractors to secure contracts.
  • Generating new sales leads and conducting follow-ups until the sale is closed.
  • Supporting the BAS construction team as a customer liaison to ensure all project requirements are met.
  • Presenting and reviewing awarded estimate details to management during job costing setup.
  • Working with operations and other internal teams on behalf of clients to ensure the highest level of customer service.
  • Performing other duties as assigned by leadership.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree from a US accredited four-year college or university with a minimum of 2 years professional experience is preferred but not required.
  • Associate degree with a minimum of 5 years professional experience strongly considered.
  • A minimum of 2 years' professional experience working in the Building Automation System (BAS), Direct Digital Control (DDC), Energy Management, or any other Controls field in a similar or related position is desired.
  • Experience with estimating software and/or Microsoft Excel spreadsheet design is required.
  • Expertise in marketing, negotiation, and selling systems requiring technical knowledge of the industry is necessary.
  • Ability to be attentive and responsive to client concerns and provide strategic solutions is essential.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate effectively with management and cross-functional teams for both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Proficient in working with others to plan, conduct, and report work efforts.
  • Ability to prioritize and multi-task within time and technical constraints is important.
  • Ability to establish effective collaborative working relationships across different functional areas is required.
  • Must possess a high level of ownership, enthusiasm, and a collaborative, professional temperament.
