About the position
The Building Automation System Technician at the U.S. Botanic Garden (USBG) is responsible for installing, maintaining, evaluating, and repairing electronic control equipment and systems that support the greenhouse environmental control system. This role is essential for ensuring the proper functioning of HVAC operations and other related systems, contributing to the USBG's mission of inspiring appreciation and conservation of plants. The technician will work independently or collaboratively on various projects, including exhibitions and educational programs, and must be available during emergencies and inclement weather.
Responsibilities
- Install, maintain, evaluate, and repair electronic control equipment and systems for the greenhouse environmental control system.
- Support HVAC operations and ensure the functionality of related systems.
- Monitor and adjust existing electronic sensing and control equipment.
- Review and maintain the status of the computer-operated environmental control system.
- Provide technical support for control problems with the Direct Digital Controls (DDC) system.
- Develop changes to schematics and maintenance procedures for lower-grade employees.
- Coordinate with engineering personnel on equipment changes and specifications.
- Operate the greenhouse Environmental Control System and Building Automation System (BAS) terminals.
Requirements
- Ability to perform work without more than normal supervision.
- Specialized experience in electronic control systems and HVAC operations.
