About the position

The Building Automation Systems (BAS) Engineer is responsible for developing and maintaining software solutions and user interfaces for the BAS at The Claremont Colleges. This role involves coordinating with facilities departments, designing and implementing systems, and leading energy conservation projects. The engineer will supervise a Building Automation Specialist and ensure effective communication and training within the team.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain software solutions and user interface for the Building Automation System (BAS).
  • Coordinate with facilities departments at each member institution of The Claremont Colleges for BAS services and support.
  • Work closely with technical trades, engineers, and IT personnel to design, implement, retrofit, and maintain the BAS/EIS.
  • Develop solutions for third-party integration with the campus BAS.
  • Design and maintain Energy Information Systems (EIS) connections for electrical utility data for sustainability consulting.
  • Lead energy conservation projects.
  • Design and maintain BAS backend architecture facilitating import networking to IT stakeholders.
  • Supervise and evaluate the work of a Building Automation Systems Specialist.
  • Recruit, select, train, evaluate, and develop staff.
  • Provide ongoing coaching and address performance issues early.

Requirements

  • At least two (3) years of coursework in mathematics, computer science, computer information systems, or engineering.
  • Successful completion of a training program for major building automation systems manufacturer (preferably Andover Systems, Schneider EcoStruxure).
  • Preference for a bachelor's degree in mathematics, computer science, engineering technology, or a closely related field.
  • At least three (5) years of experience working in the building automation system industry as an engineer/technician or similar role, OR at least five (5) years of experience working in the commercial HVAC industry.
  • At least two (2) years of previous management experience supervising the work of others.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with Andover Systems Continuum or Schneider EcoStruxure (EBO 2024) systems.
  • Successful integration of BacNet and ModBus devices with BAS software.
  • Scripting and/or programming in object-oriented languages or specifically Schneider PE language.
  • Graphical User Interface creating (GUI) in HTML/CSS/JavaScript and Schneider EcoStruxure (TGML).
