About the position

The Building Automation Systems (BAS) Technician at Universal Orlando Resort is responsible for the installation, repair, and commissioning of computer-based control systems that manage and monitor the mechanical and electrical equipment within the buildings. This includes critical systems such as heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC), chiller plants, and energy management systems. The technician will work closely with customers to address their BAS needs and will also support various maintenance and electronic management requirements for the Ride/Show department. In this role, the technician will coordinate with Operations personnel to identify and analyze system problems, ensuring that all systems are functioning optimally. A significant part of the job involves monitoring Honeywell Fire Alarm Life Safety Systems, performing maintenance on BAS, fire alarm systems, security systems, and card access systems across the site. The technician will also be responsible for system monitoring, troubleshooting, and implementing program changes as necessary, while coordinating with contracted service firms for more extensive modifications. Daily responsibilities include performing quick calls to address temperature comfort for guests and team members while maximizing energy efficiency. Preventative maintenance on HVAC BAS software and hardware components is crucial to ensure efficient operation. The technician will make recommendations for system upgrades and changes to enhance performance and energy conservation. Additionally, the technician will conduct building fire alarm inspections and testing in compliance with NFPA requirements and maintain fire alarm systems according to the Maximo PM Schedule. The role also involves supporting miscellaneous electronic maintenance tasks as needed and actively participating in Environmental, Health & Safety responsibilities as per established policies and procedures.

Responsibilities

  • Install, repair, and commission computer-based control systems for building mechanical and electrical equipment.
  • Interface with customers to service BAS needs.
  • Support UO Maintenance and Ride/show department electronic/energy management needs.
  • Coordinate with Operations personnel to identify and analyze system problems.
  • Monitor Honeywell Fire Alarm Life Safety Systems.
  • Perform maintenance for BAS, fire alarm life safety systems, security systems, and card access systems site-wide.
  • Conduct system monitoring, troubleshooting, and program changes to the BAS as required.
  • Perform daily hot/cold quick calls to ensure guest/team member comfort while maintaining energy efficiency.
  • Conduct preventative maintenance on HVAC BAS software/hardware system components.
  • Make recommendations for system program changes and upgrades for maximum performance and energy conservation.
  • Communicate system changes to HVAC and affected departments.
  • Perform building fire alarm inspection and testing in accordance with NFPA requirements.
  • Maintain fire alarm and associated systems per Maximo PM Schedule.
  • Support miscellaneous Maintenance and Ride & Show department electronic maintenance as needed.
  • Participate in Environmental, Health & Safety responsibilities by following established policies and procedures.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • 7+ years of BAS control technician experience required.
  • Experience with computer-based software required.
  • Valid Florida Driver's License required to operate company vehicles.
  • Niagara Framework Technical Certification (Preferred).
  • Johnson Controls Metasys (ADS/ADX) (Preferred).
  • Honeywell or any other BAS/DDC System (Preferred).

Nice-to-haves

  • Associate degree (AA) or equivalent from a two-year college or technical school preferred.
  • Experience with Honeywell EBI Life Safety maintenance/monitoring preferred.
