About the position

The Building Facilities Manager (Space Planning & Operations) at the University of Pennsylvania is responsible for overseeing the maintenance and operations of facilities within the Perelman School of Medicine. This role ensures compliance with established standards of care, manages daily operations, and serves as a liaison between various departments to optimize facility services. The manager is also on call for emergencies and must be able to travel within the five-county area, emphasizing the essential nature of this position in supporting the school's mission of research and education.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure all facilities maintenance, repairs, and general building operations are conducted in compliance with the Standard of Care.
  • Serve as a principal liaison for daily facilities operations with various departments.
  • Manage housekeeping, maintenance, building systems, utilities, and minor construction services.
  • Provide feedback to customers on work status and serve as a follow-up contact for faculty, students, and staff.
  • Respond to facility emergencies and serve as backup for the Off-Campus Operations Manager.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree or four-year college equivalent required.
  • 3-5 years of relevant experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Preferred: Engineering/Facility Management or related field with 5-7 years of relevant experience.
  • Demonstrated understanding of technical aspects of planning, operating, and maintaining mechanical, plumbing, electrical, and structural systems.
  • Strong customer service competencies and ability to focus on the needs of others.
  • Demonstrated managerial skills.
