About the position

The Building Inspector I position at Pima County involves ensuring compliance with building regulations and codes for residential and commercial structures. Inspectors will verify adherence to County building regulations, conduct inspections, review plans, and assist contractors and property owners in understanding code compliance. This role is essential for maintaining safety and standards in construction within the community.

Responsibilities

• Inspect commercial and residential structures for compliance with permitted activities and codes.
• Conduct complex inspections with other Building Inspectors.
• Review plans and specifications for compliance with permits and codes.
• Schedule and document inspection activities, issuing approval and correction notices.
• Identify and document defects or deviations from permitted construction activities.
• Consult with contractors and property owners on code compliance and resolve issues.
• Prepare and submit reports to management regarding inspections and compliance.
• Operate and service assigned County vehicles.
• Maintain activity records in manual and automated systems.

Requirements

• Five years of experience as a contractor, engineer, architect, building inspector, or in a supervisory role in construction.
• Three years of experience in a public-sector building inspection setting with two ICC certifications as a Residential Inspector or related certifications.

Nice-to-haves

• ICC certifications as a combination building inspector or related certifications.
• Experience with building codes application.
• Knowledge of structural engineering principles including load paths.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
• Experience with GIS and inspection software.
• Familiarity with zoning and grading regulations.
