About the position

The Building Maintenance Person position is a temporary full-time role within the Facilities department, lasting for 6 months. The position is based at the Auburn, NY Campus and reports to the Director of Facilities Services and Public Safety. The role involves performing a variety of semi-skilled building and grounds maintenance and repair tasks, which may include working independently or assisting a journeyman tradesman. The maintenance person is expected to have a working knowledge of one or more trades, although they will not be utilizing highly skilled journeyman techniques for a significant portion of their time. The job may also require part-time operation of trucks or other automotive equipment, with general instructions provided and work performed under supervision depending on the task.

Responsibilities

• Perform semi-skilled work in masonry, carpentry, electrical, or painting operations.
• Help to install and repair wiring systems and electric fixtures and equipment.
• Repair windows, doors, floors, walls, and other parts of buildings.
• Conduct interior and exterior painting where quantity rather than fine quality is the principal object.
• Assist in installing and repairing general plumbing equipment, such as sinks, toilets, and baths.
• Help clean and repair boilers, pumps, heaters, pipelines, valves, and traps.
• Mix plaster and concrete and assist in laying brick, plastering walls, and finishing concrete work.
• Operate trucks, automobiles, air compressors, and other motorized equipment.
• Participate in general grounds maintenance activities.
• Serve as a general handyman performing a variety of semi-skilled duties.

Requirements

• Two (2) years of experience in general building construction or maintenance work in one or more of the standard trades, such as carpentry, plumbing, and electrical.
