About the position

The Building Maintenance Specialist I at the City of Idaho Falls Airport is an entry-level position responsible for performing a variety of semi-skilled maintenance tasks related to carpentry, masonry, locksmithing, and painting. This role involves ensuring the upkeep and repair of airport buildings and facilities, adhering to safety standards and building codes, and assisting in preventive maintenance programs. The specialist will also operate various tools and equipment, respond to airport security incidents, and assist the custodial team as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Perform semi-skilled duties related to the construction, maintenance, and repair of airport buildings and facilities.
  • Conduct general maintenance on various building components and apparatus, including motors, pumps, valves, and electrical systems.
  • Perform preventive maintenance on facility systems and equipment, including HVAC and plumbing systems.
  • Monitor the status of buildings regarding safety standards and make recommendations for compliance.
  • Assist with carpentry, masonry, painting, electrical, HVAC, and plumbing tasks as needed.
  • Maintain airport-specific equipment and tools, including Passenger Boarding Bridges and baggage conveyor systems.
  • Perform seasonal duties such as snow removal and maintain airport facilities using various tools and vehicles.
  • Assist the custodial team with cleaning and maintaining facilities.
  • Conduct routine inspections of airport facilities and respond to security incidents.
  • Maintain equipment storage areas and ensure a safe environment.

Requirements

  • High school graduation and one year of specialized training in maintenance or construction fields.
  • Two years of experience in building construction or maintenance with skills in carpentry, plumbing, electrical wiring, and painting.
  • Knowledge of specialty craft methods and practices, building codes, and safety regulations.
  • Skill in using power and hand tools for repairs and maintenance tasks.
  • Ability to follow instructions, maintain safety standards, and communicate effectively.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with airport facilities and equipment maintenance.
  • Knowledge of OSHA and ADA regulations.
  • Familiarity with preventive maintenance program development.
