About the position

The Building Maintenance Technician serves as an experienced tradesman responsible for a variety of building maintenance tasks aimed at constructing, repairing, and maintaining facilities managed by the Leavenworth County Department of Building & Grounds. The role involves performing routine maintenance, responding to work orders, and executing special projects under the direction of the Director of Buildings & Grounds. The technician must be capable of evaluating maintenance situations, determining the need for contractor assistance, and completing tasks independently or collaboratively with minimal supervision.

Responsibilities

• Conduct building walk-throughs for custodial checks.
• Respond to and complete building work orders.
• Perform household repairs as needed.
• Execute electrical repairs and maintenance.
• Conduct HVAC repairs and tune-ups.
• Carry out concrete repairs as required.
• Manage mowing and landscaping tasks.
• Forecast maintenance needs and assign tasks accordingly.
• Participate in construction projects as assigned.
• Ensure safety protocols are followed during all tasks.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED.
• Valid driver's license.
• Experience in building maintenance and repair.
• Skilled in using various hand and power tools.
• Knowledge of standard plumbing repairs and replacements.
• Knowledge of standard electrical repairs and replacements.
• Ability to assess and repair minor HVAC breakdowns.
• Knowledge in concrete assessment and repair techniques.
• Skilled in creating work plans and prioritizing work orders.
• Effective communication skills for instruction and collaboration.

Nice-to-haves

• Experience with programmable logic controllers (1 year preferred).
• Mechanical knowledge (1 year preferred).
