About the position

The City of Fairfield is seeking applications for the position of Building Maintenance Worker I/II/III within the Public Works Department. This role involves performing a variety of semi-skilled and skilled tasks to maintain and ensure the functionality of essential facilities, including police stations, fire stations, and water treatment plants. The position offers opportunities for advancement through three levels, with increasing responsibilities based on experience and skill development.

Responsibilities

• Perform maintenance and repair tasks on essential building systems.
• Oversee operations within a central utility plant to ensure efficient facility performance.
• Work across multiple trades including carpentry, plumbing, and electrical systems.
• Provide technical support for HVAC equipment.
• Maintain safety and cleanliness standards in all work areas.

Requirements

• Building Maintenance Worker I: One year of experience in general building maintenance work.
• Building Maintenance Worker II: Minimum of one year experience as an apprentice plumber or two years in general building maintenance.
• Building Maintenance Worker III: Minimum of two years as a Building Maintenance Worker II or three years in general building maintenance work at the journeyman level.
• Equivalent to completion of the twelfth grade.
