About the position

The Airport Maintenance Worker (Buildings) at the Indianapolis Airport Authority is responsible for performing general and skilled trades maintenance on the buildings, facilities, and grounds at all airports owned or operated by the IAA. This role encompasses a variety of maintenance tasks, including but not limited to, locksmith duties, plumbing installation and repair, painting, drywall finishing, basic electrical work, and carpentry. The worker must also participate in snow removal activities and be prepared to respond to the needs of the airport on a 24-hour basis. The position requires the operation of various equipment, including fire alarm systems, lifts, bucket trucks, and waste disposal systems, ensuring that all maintenance tasks are completed efficiently and safely. Essential job responsibilities include operating and maintaining fire suppression systems, performing carpentry work such as constructing walls and offices, installing and repairing commercial plumbing systems, and managing locksmith duties for different locking systems. The worker will also be responsible for minor repairs, including clearing plugged drains, repairing broken doors, and maintaining HVAC equipment. The role demands a proactive approach to reporting any unusual security situations to the Safety Department and assisting other departments as needed. The worker must be able to operate trucks, power sweepers, forklifts, tractors, and snow removal equipment, ensuring that all tasks are completed to the highest standards of safety and efficiency.

Responsibilities

  • Perform general and skilled trades maintenance on buildings, facilities, and grounds at all airports owned or operated by the IAA.
  • Operate fire alarm systems and maintain fire suppression systems.
  • Install and repair low voltage DC and AC electrical equipment.
  • Conduct carpentry work including the construction of walls and offices.
  • Install and finish drywall.
  • Perform commercial plumbing installation and repair, including water heaters and irrigation systems.
  • Install various types of commercial flooring.
  • Manage locksmith duties for different locking systems and cut keys.
  • Paint and apply commercial wall coverings.
  • Repair and replace doors and their hardware.
  • Perform minor repairs including clearing plugged drains and fixtures, repairing broken doors, and replacing lights.
  • Operate trucks, power sweepers, forklifts, tractors, and snow removal equipment.
  • Report any unusual security situations to the Safety Department.
  • Assist other departments as needed.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED required; vocational school completion preferred.
  • 3-5 years of experience in maintenance and construction work.
  • Experience in one or more building trades or a combination of education and experience that provides the necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities.
  • Ability to perform all physical and cognitive tasks outlined in the job description.
  • Prior experience in operating light duty construction vehicles.
  • Must be able to obtain a commercial driver's license (Class B) and forklift certification.
