About the position

The Building Service Foreperson is responsible for supervising the daily operations of Facilities and Services Building Service Workers at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. This role involves overseeing a team of approximately 20-30 workers, ensuring the quality and safety of custodial work, managing supplies and equipment, and maintaining accurate records. The position plays a crucial role in implementing safety protocols and quality improvement initiatives within the facilities management department.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise and administer the daily work of approximately 20-30 Facilities and Services Building Service Workers.
  • Schedule, assign, and inspect custodial work and the performance of Building Service Workers.
  • Process and approve time worked by Building Service Workers accurately.
  • Ensure the safety of employees, fill out accident forms, and handle emergencies such as floods and fires.
  • Conduct weekly team and monthly safety meetings to promote safe work practices.
  • Implement the Performance Partnership Program.
  • Maintain adequate supplies, equipment, and materials at each job location.
  • Keep accurate inventory records of all equipment in the assigned area.
  • Maintain records of building keys and manage locking and unlocking of buildings.
  • Support and implement quality improvement initiatives.

Requirements

  • High school graduation or equivalent.
  • Three (3) years of experience in building custodial work.

Nice-to-haves

  • Possession of a valid Driver's license at the time of hire and maintained throughout employment.
  • Knowledge of custodial training procedures.
  • Strong computer skills, particularly in Excel and Microsoft Word.

Benefits

  • Salary range of $50,000-60,000 per year based on experience and qualifications.
