About the position

The Building Structural Engineer I-II position is a junior level engineering role within the Building Plan Review Division of Prince George's County. This position involves the review of construction documents, applying architectural, ADA, and structural engineering principles while ensuring compliance with County and National Codes. The role requires independent professional judgment and oversight of lower-level staff under the supervision of higher management.

Responsibilities

  • Review construction documents for compliance with building codes and regulations.
  • Apply architectural, ADA, and structural engineering principles during plan reviews.
  • Provide technical guidance and support to paraprofessional and clerical staff.
  • Collaborate with higher-level management on engineering projects and reviews.
  • Ensure enforcement of County and National Codes throughout the review process.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, or a related field.
  • Knowledge of building codes and regulations, including ADA compliance.
  • Ability to interpret and analyze construction documents and plans.
  • Strong communication skills for collaboration with team members and stakeholders.
  • Experience in engineering principles and practices.

Nice-to-haves

  • Professional Engineer (PE) license or Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification.
  • Experience with building plan review processes.
