About the position

The Building Substitute — Elementary Teacher (Bilingual Spanish) position at Independent School District 742 is designed to create a safe and caring climate and culture for students. The role emphasizes the importance of preparing, engaging, educating, empowering, and inspiring all learners in partnership with their surrounding community. The teacher will be responsible for fostering an environment that supports the success of students in today's and tomorrow's society. This position requires a commitment to continuous performance improvement and the ability to adapt to change while working collaboratively with diverse populations of staff, students, and parents. The teacher will engage in instructional planning and preparation, demonstrating knowledge of content and pedagogy, understanding students' needs, selecting appropriate instructional goals, and designing coherent instruction. They will assess student learning and create a classroom environment that promotes respect, rapport, and a culture for learning. Effective classroom management, including managing procedures and student behavior, is essential. The teacher will also organize the physical space to enhance learning. In terms of instructional interaction, the teacher will communicate clearly and accurately, utilize questioning and discussion techniques, engage students in learning, provide constructive feedback, and demonstrate flexibility and responsiveness to student needs. Professional responsibilities include reflecting on teaching practices, maintaining accurate records, communicating with families, contributing to the school and district, and pursuing professional growth and development. Other duties may be assigned as necessary.

Requirements

  • Current Elementary license issued by the Minnesota Department of Education (MDE)
  • Bachelor's degree
  • Strong communication skills
