About the position

Substitute Teacher Service Inc is seeking a qualified Building Substitute Teacher to work within the Southeast Delco School District. This position is essential for maintaining the educational process in the absence of the regular classroom teacher. The substitute teacher will be responsible for providing instruction and managing the learning environment, ensuring that the curriculum continues to be delivered effectively. The role requires daily reassignment based on the needs of the school district, and the substitute teacher must comply with the duties outlined by the classroom teacher, principal, or designee. The work is available every day, and the rate of pay is $175 per day. The substitute teacher's day-to-day job duties will vary depending on the specific needs of the classroom and the instructions provided by the regular teacher. Responsibilities may include overseeing student behavior, executing instructional activities, and providing support to special needs children. The substitute teacher must maintain a high level of ethical behavior and confidentiality regarding school personnel and student information. Additionally, the substitute teacher is expected to conduct themselves in a professional manner with other staff members and building administrators. To qualify for this position, candidates must possess a valid Pennsylvania Teaching Certification, PA Emergency Certification, or a Letter of Completion. Candidates must also provide a clean Pennsylvania Criminal Records check, Child Abuse Clearance History, and FBI Criminal History Record, all less than five years old. Other requirements include proof of a TB test, three professional references, a resume, and two valid forms of identification for I-9 verification. The role may also require additional training certifications related to mandated reporting and suicide prevention. The physical demands of the job include the ability to sit or stand for extended periods, moderate lifting, and maintaining effective classroom management skills. The work environment encompasses various district buildings and grounds, and the substitute teacher must be prepared to handle a range of emotional situations with students and staff.

Responsibilities

  • Provide instruction and manage the learning environment in the absence of the regular classroom teacher.
  • Execute instructional activities with individual students or small groups following the absent teacher's lesson plans.
  • Oversee student behavior in the classroom, during lunch, activity periods, and out-of-class settings.
  • Maintain a high level of ethical behavior and confidentiality regarding school personnel and student information.
  • Report to the office upon arrival for check-in and review the plans and schedules for the day.
  • Assume responsibility for the safety and well-being of students, taking necessary precautions to protect students and materials.
  • Conduct oneself in a polite and professional manner with other staff members and building administrators.
  • Provide instruction to special needs children who are part of the classroom dynamic.

Requirements

  • Valid Pennsylvania Teaching Certification, PA Emergency Certification, or Letter of Completion.
  • Clean Pennsylvania Criminal Records check (Act 34) less than 5 years old.
  • Clean Pennsylvania Child Abuse Clearance History (Act 151) less than 5 years old.
  • Clean FBI Criminal History Record less than 5 years old.
  • Proof of a TB test or chest x-ray that is less than 3 months old.
  • Three professional references (contact information) and/or letters.
  • A resume and routing number and account number for direct deposit setup.
  • Two valid forms of identification for I-9 verification.
  • A valid, working email address that is not a college or university address.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience working with students in a classroom setting.
  • Training in Act 126 (Mandated Reporting) and/or Act 71 (Suicide Prevention).
  • Additional certificates for specialized training (e.g., Crisis Prevention Intervention).
