About the position

The Building Substitute for Wake County Public School System is responsible for providing instructional coverage for teachers by teaching content and skills in various subject areas. This role involves developing lesson plans, administering tests, and providing individualized instruction to meet the diverse needs of students. The substitute will also evaluate student progress, maintain records, and supervise students during out-of-classroom activities, ensuring a safe and productive learning environment.

Responsibilities

  • Teaches content and skills in subject area utilizing curriculum for classroom coverage.
  • Develops lesson plans and administers tests.
  • Provides individualized and small group instruction to adapt the curriculum to student needs.
  • Evaluates academic and social growth of students and prepares report cards.
  • Keeps and maintains records, including attendance reports and checklists.
  • Identifies student needs and collaborates with other staff members in assessing students.
  • Supervises students in assigned out-of-classroom activities during the working day.
  • Communicates with parents and school counselors on student progress.
  • Participates in faculty committees and student activities.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Completion of Substitute Effective Teacher Training (SETT) or Effective Teacher Training (ETT).
  • Considerable knowledge of Microsoft Office, specifically Word, Excel, and PowerPoint; Google Apps.
  • Knowledge of curriculum and techniques for integrating curriculum and effective classroom instructional practices.
  • Effective time management and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work in a team environment and collaborate with others.
  • Ability to monitor and supervise the safety and well-being of students.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely in oral and written form.
  • Ability to provide instruction that reflects multiple perspectives and multicultural education.
  • Ability to infuse technology into the curriculum.
  • Ability to maintain order and discipline in a classroom.
