About the position

As a Buildings Mechanical Engineer specializing in Data Centers at Black & Veatch, you will play a crucial role in the engineering and design of HVAC and plumbing systems across various facility types. This position offers the opportunity to engage in both design and construction activities, utilizing traditional and alternative project delivery methods. You will work on a diverse range of facilities, including power generation buildings, substations, oil and gas structures, and energy storage buildings. Your expertise will be applied to systems such as HVAC and plumbing, covering areas like power generation halls, administrative spaces, warehouses, maintenance workshops, laboratories, and chemical storage facilities. The HVAC Team is involved in several key activities, including computational fluid dynamics (CFD) studies, energy audits, and efficiency engineering studies. You will also conduct system performance reviews and energy compliance calculations, ensuring that all designs meet relevant codes and standards. A significant aspect of your role will be the application of sustainable design strategies, including LEED certification processes for industrial buildings. Responsibilities

  • Participate in the engineering and design of HVAC and plumbing systems for various facilities.
  • Engage in design and construction activities for power generation buildings, substations, and energy storage facilities.
  • Conduct computational fluid dynamics (CFD) studies and energy audits for system performance reviews.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant codes and standards through facility reviews.
  • Apply sustainable design strategies and assist in obtaining LEED certification for industrial buildings.
  • Collaborate with team members on project delivery methods, including traditional and alternative approaches.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering from an accredited program.
  • Minimum of 8 years of related work experience in mechanical engineering.
  • Professional Engineering (PE) License is required.
  • Basic knowledge of NFPA standards and energy modeling.
  • Experience with HVAC equipment sizing and technical submittal reviewing process.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and Bluebeam Revu.
  • LEED AP certification is preferred, with experience in obtaining LEED certification for industrial buildings.
  • Extensive experience with large-scale water-cooled chillers is preferred.
  • Familiarity with International Codes Council (ICC) Suite of Codes, ASHRAE Handbooks, and SMACNA Standards.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with 6Sigma software for CFD applications in Data Centers.
  • Knowledge of the bid reviewing process and technical submittal reviewing process.
