About the position

In this role, you will have the opportunity to participate in engineering and design of the HVAC and plumbing systems in various types of facilities. The HVAC Team is engaged in a variety of design and construction activities, utilizing both traditional and alternative project delivery methods. You will work on facility types that include Power Generation buildings, Substations, Oil & Gas structures, and Energy Storage buildings. Your focus will be on HVAC and plumbing systems across diverse areas such as Power Generation Halls, Administrative spaces, Warehouses, Maintenance workshops, Laboratories, and Chemical Storage & Handling areas. You will also be involved in Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) studies, energy audits, and efficiency engineering studies, as well as code reviews for compliance and the application of sustainable design strategies, including LEED certification processes. The Mechanical Buildings Design Group provides HVAC and plumbing solutions for Black & Veatch's three market sectors: Governments & Environment, Energy & Process Industries, and Connectivity & Commercial. In this role, you will engage with exciting projects across the globe, from small community improvements to grand-scale Mega Projects. Responsibilities

  • Participate in the engineering and design of HVAC and plumbing systems for various facilities.
  • Engage in design and construction activities for power generation buildings, substations, and oil & gas structures.
  • Conduct energy audits and efficiency engineering studies.
  • Perform code reviews for compliance with relevant standards.
  • Apply sustainable design strategies, including LEED certification processes.
  • Utilize Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) for system performance analysis.
  • Review technical submittals and bids for HVAC projects.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering from an accredited program.
  • Minimum of 8 years of related work experience.
  • Professional Engineering (PE) License required.
  • Basic knowledge of NFPA standards and energy modeling.
  • Experience with large-scale water-cooled chillers preferred.
  • Familiarity with ASHRAE Handbooks and SMACNA Standards.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and Bluebeam Revu.
  • Experience with 6Sigma software for CFD applications.

Nice-to-haves

  • LEED AP certification with experience in obtaining LEED certification for industrial buildings.
  • Extensive experience with HVAC equipment sizing and heat load calculations.
  • Knowledge of the International Codes Council (ICC) Suite of Codes.
