About the position

The Data Center Technician role at Delta Systems involves working in data centers located in Columbus, OH, and New Albany, OH. This long-term contract position requires individuals with at least 6 months of experience in telecommunications and data center operations. The technician will be responsible for various tasks related to installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of network equipment and cabling systems, while ensuring adherence to safety and customer service standards.

Responsibilities

• Knowledge and use of basic telecom hand tools.
• Understand customer service principles.
• Comprehend job safety requirements.
• Read and understand floor plans.
• Familiarity with wiring schemes and wiring testing.
• Pull all types of low voltage cable.
• Perform field terminations and labeling.
• Maintain orderly paperwork and run service jobs.
• Layout MDF and IDF closets and dress all types of cable.
• Install ladder racking and seismic bracing above and under raised floors.
• Understand copper and fiber cable testing and troubleshooting.
• Dress and furcate fiber trunks for splicing.
• Install, connect, and decommission network equipment.
• Operate DSX 5000 tester and OTDR Tester.
• Program testers and download test results to Linkware/Linkware Live.
• Save, verify, and submit test results to customers.
• Create mass labels and apply per Portmap.
• Differentiate live cables from decommissioned cables.
• Conduct service swaps of live networking devices.
• Understand the FIM database and operate scanners.

Requirements

• Minimum of 6 months experience in a related field.
• Ability to communicate effectively with verbal, written, visual, and listening skills.
• Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate required equipment and a computer keyboard.
• Ability to lift and carry heavy equipment, up to 50 pounds.
• Ability to pull cables and climb ladders to work on raised platforms.
