About the position

The Bureau Multimedia Journalist (MMJ) position at KYTV/KSPR involves reporting from the Lake of the Ozarks and Branson, MO. The role requires a creative and proactive journalist who can tell compelling stories through interviews and live reporting. The MMJ will be responsible for researching, gathering, shooting, writing, editing, and reporting news stories both on-air and online, with a focus on community engagement and safety-related topics.

Responsibilities

  • Research, gather, shoot, write, edit, and report news stories on-air and online.
  • Make political contacts and develop short and long-term stories relevant to the viewing area.
  • Report live on the scene during breaking news events.
  • Aggressively research stories and conduct interviews in the field.
  • Develop and maintain sources of information and knowledge about assignments.
  • Demonstrate sound news judgment and collaborate with others to present stories effectively.
  • Utilize non-linear editing equipment daily.
  • Participate in story selection processes and contribute lead story ideas.
  • Attend and speak at community service events and meet viewers.
  • Post and update stories on the web and social media regularly.
  • Communicate with web staff during breaking news events.
  • Follow clothing and appearance guidelines for on-air presentation.
  • Perform creative stand-ups and explanatory live shots.
  • Make regular beat checks and check in with contacts.
  • Learn about the viewing area, including its history and key figures.
  • Critique, provide feedback, and participate in training as needed.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Valid Driver's License required.
  • Excellent writing skills in a clear, concise, conversational manner.
  • Strong interview and conversational writing skills.
  • Excellent live reporting and on-camera presentation skills.
  • Basic computer knowledge, including newsroom software and Microsoft applications.
  • Ability to carry, shoot, and edit video with digital cameras.
  • Intermediate knowledge of social media platforms.
  • Ability to work independently with limited supervision.
  • Strong initiative and attention to detail.
  • Demonstrated solid news judgment and journalistic ethics.
  • Ability to maintain a positive work atmosphere.
