About the position

KY3 News is seeking an experienced Multimedia Journalist (MMJ) to lead bureaus in the Lake of the Ozarks and Branson, Missouri. The ideal candidate will be a proactive storyteller who can cover local news, engage with the community, and produce compelling content across various platforms. This role emphasizes creativity, initiative, and the ability to work independently while maintaining strong connections with the audience and local sources.

Responsibilities

  • Research, gather, shoot, write, edit, and report news stories on-air and online accurately and creatively.
  • Make political contacts and develop both short and long-term stories relevant to the viewing area.
  • Report live on the scene during breaking news events.
  • Live in the area where reporting occurs as a bureau reporter.
  • Aggressively research stories and conduct field interviews.
  • Develop and maintain sources of information related to assignments.
  • Demonstrate sound news judgment and collaborate with others to present stories effectively.
  • Utilize non-linear editing equipment daily for news production.
  • Create enterprise hard-news packages under tight deadlines.
  • Participate in story selection meetings and contribute lead story ideas focused on safety and security.
  • Attend and engage in community service events, schools, and community gatherings.
  • Post and update stories on the web and social media regularly, including daily updates on Facebook and Twitter.
  • Communicate with web staff during breaking news situations.
  • Adhere to clothing and appearance guidelines.
  • Perform creative stand-ups and moving live shots as a visual storyteller.
  • Be available for evenings, weekends, mornings, and holidays as required.
  • Conduct regular beat checks and maintain contact with sources.
  • Possess a broad knowledge of the viewing area, including its history and key figures.
  • Use appropriate lighting techniques to enhance news presentations.
  • Engage in critique, feedback, and training as part of the role.
  • Be on-call as needed for news coverage.
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Ability to write clearly and concisely in a conversational style.
  • Excellent interview and conversational writing skills.
  • Strong live reporting and on-camera presentation skills.
  • Basic computer knowledge, including newsroom software and Microsoft applications.
  • Ability to carry, shoot, and edit video using digital cameras.
  • Experience producing and posting content to websites.
  • Intermediate knowledge of social media platforms.
  • Ability to work independently with limited supervision.
  • Strong teamwork skills and ability to work well in a collaborative environment.
  • Ability to meet tight deadlines and perform well under pressure.
  • Strong initiative and attention to detail.
  • Demonstrate solid news judgment and adhere to journalistic ethics.
  • Maintain professional conduct in the station and community.
  • Ability to foster a positive work atmosphere with co-workers and viewers.
  • Strong research skills, including navigating online search engines.
  • Stay current with national and local news and weather.
