About the position

The Bureau Multimedia Journalist (MMJ) position at KY3 involves reporting from the Lake of the Ozarks and Branson, Missouri. The role requires a proactive journalist who can tell compelling stories about real people, conduct interviews, and cover news events independently. The ideal candidate will be creative, hardworking, and capable of producing high-quality news content under tight deadlines, while also engaging with the community and utilizing social media effectively.

Responsibilities

  • Research, gather, shoot, write, edit, and report news stories on-air and online.
  • Make political contacts and develop short and long-term stories relevant to the viewing area.
  • Report live on the scene during breaking news events.
  • Aggressively research stories and conduct field interviews.
  • Develop and maintain sources of information related to assignments.
  • Demonstrate sound news judgment and collaborate with others to present stories effectively.
  • Utilize non-linear editing equipment daily.
  • Produce enterprise hard-news, research-driven packages under tight deadlines.
  • Participate in story selection meetings and contribute lead story ideas.
  • Attend and speak at community service events and engage with viewers.
  • Post and update stories on the web and social media regularly.
  • Communicate with web staff during breaking news events.
  • Follow clothing and appearance guidelines for on-air presentation.
  • Perform creative stand-ups and explanatory live shots.
  • Make regular beat checks and maintain contact with sources.
  • Learn about the viewing area, including its history and key figures.
  • Use appropriate lighting to enhance news presentations.
  • Participate in critique and feedback sessions for improvement.
  • Be on-call as needed for news coverage.

Requirements

  • Ability to write in a clear, concise, conversational manner.
  • Excellent interview and conversational writing skills.
  • Strong live reporting and on-camera presentation skills.
  • Basic computer knowledge, including newsroom software and Microsoft applications.
  • Ability to carry, shoot, and edit video with digital cameras.
  • Experience producing and posting content to websites.
  • Intermediate knowledge of social media platforms.
  • Ability to work independently with limited supervision.
  • Strong teamwork skills and ability to meet tight deadlines under pressure.
  • Strong initiative and attention to detail.
  • Demonstrate solid news judgment and journalistic ethics.
  • Maintain professional conduct in the station and community.
  • Strong research skills and ability to navigate online search engines.
  • Stay current with national and local news and weather.
