About the position

The Burn Registrar plays a crucial role in managing the Burn Registry, which is essential for the operations of the Burn Program at Cobb Hospital. This position involves collecting, managing, and analyzing data on burn patients, ensuring accurate recording of injuries, treatments, and outcomes. The role contributes to research and quality improvement in burn care, following guidelines set by organizations like the American Burn Association (ABA). The Burn Registrar is responsible for data abstraction, entry, validation, and reporting, and must maintain proficiency in various coding systems and health information technology.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for the abstraction of data from various sources necessary to complete burn records within the hospital's burn registry.
  • Identifies records that fall within the burn registry inclusion criteria for hospital, state, and national registries.
  • Performs data abstraction and entry using established rules and definitions set by the ABA and other relevant organizations.
  • Informs the Burn Program Manager of all relevant burn audits and filter inconsistencies via monthly Quality Assurance Reports.
  • Informs burn program leadership of opportunities for improvement in trauma-related documentation identified during data processes.
  • Responsible for the assimilation, extraction, and statistical presentation of all burn registry data as required by the ABA and TJC.
  • Runs quality assurance reports and takes corrective action on errors in preparation for data uploads.
  • Ensures timely completion and documentation of all data uploads to relevant registries.
  • Produces various Quality Assurance reports as requested by the BPM.
  • Analyzes records for quality assurance trauma standards recommended by the burn committee and as stipulated by the ABA and TJC.
  • Maintains validity to assure accurate program profiling and internal data reports.
  • Completes routine checks of abstracted data for accuracy and implements corrective actions for invalid data.
  • Ensures security and privacy of all burn registry-related data in accordance with HIPAA and management procedures.
  • Expands the database management program as needed to meet the burn program's needs.
  • Serves as liaison with the registry software vendor and IT department personnel.
  • Ensures all software program updates and data backups are completed as needed.
  • Attends all burn services meetings as requested and is responsible for continued professional growth through education and training.

Requirements

  • Proficient in computer entry and data extraction.
  • Required ICD-10 CM and PCS coding experience.
  • Database management experience with complex data structure (preferably trauma).
  • Ability to communicate with various members of the healthcare team.
  • Proficiency with MS Office and accomplished typing/data entry skills.
  • Electronic health record and 3M experience preferred.

  • Cert Specialist Trauma Registr upon hire preferred.
  • Cert Abbr Injury Scale Spec upon hire preferred.
