About the position

The Bursar/Accounts Receivable Clerk at Dyersburg State Community College is responsible for performing general clerical and accounting duties related to accounts receivable, cash management, and student financial services. This role supports the office of Student Financial Services by ensuring the integrity and accuracy of student accounts, processing financial aid transactions, and assisting with collections and cashiering duties. The position requires strong organizational skills and the ability to handle multiple tasks while maintaining confidentiality.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with monitoring and maintaining the integrity and accuracy of the student accounts receivable system.
  • Analyze student and non-student accounts; research and respond to inquiries and complaints.
  • Assist with the collections process, including research of delinquencies and performing collections calls.
  • Prepare paperwork for processing third-party billings and update the database timely.
  • Serve as cash custodian and prepare cash boxes for campus activities.
  • Prepare daily deposits and process disbursements, performing reconciliations as needed.
  • Process financial aid transactions and verify documentation.
  • Maintain current knowledge of federal, state, and institutional regulations related to financial aid.
  • Prepare forms, reports, records, and correspondence; respond to inquiries in a timely manner.
  • Assist with reconciling accounts and maintaining physical and electronic documentation according to policy.

Requirements

  • At least two years of general office experience with data entry, bookkeeping, cashiering, and customer service.
  • Knowledge of modern office practices, procedures, and equipment, including online computer systems.
  • Strong computer skills and excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to comprehend, interpret, and apply DSCC policies and procedures.
  • Ability to work independently and handle multiple complicated assignments simultaneously.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and be a team player.
  • Ability to accurately process refunds, deductions, payments, invoices, and related forms.

Nice-to-haves

  • Associates Degree from a regionally accredited institution.
  • Experience in Higher Education or Government.
  • Accounts receivable or collections experience.
