About the position

The position of School Bus Driver is essential for ensuring the safe transportation of pupils to and from school. The role requires effective communication and problem-solving skills, as well as the ability to work collaboratively in an educational setting. Regular and predictable attendance is crucial, and candidates must meet specific qualifications set by Civil Service and the NYS Education Department. A valid NYS Commercial Drivers License (CDL) with a Passenger (P) endorsement is required at the time of appointment, and candidates must maintain this license throughout their employment. Additionally, the ability to pass a qualifying physical exam and demonstrate good eye-hand-foot coordination is necessary for safe driving.

Responsibilities

• Attend meetings as needed
• Follow directives (written, oral, electronic)
• General Bus Driver assignments
• Transports pupils safely to and from school daily, according to established routes and time schedules
• Maintains proper student behavior on bus when driving
• Notifies Director of Transportation of any hazardous road, bridge, or other condition which may jeopardize the safety of children being transported to and from school
• Sweeps interior of bus daily and cleans headlights, signal lights, and tail lights
• Keeps bus windshields, windows, and rear view mirrors clean at all times
• Completes a daily record sheet including mileage and any bus malfunction
• Observes all rules, regulations, policies, and procedures regarding qualifications of bus drivers, safe operation of buses and personal characteristics
• Other assigned duties and/or responsibilities which may be deemed appropriate by the supervisor
• Maintain Data Security as applicable
• Maintain confidentiality with staff, student, and family information
• Operate in a respectful, responsible manner

• Ability to pass a qualifying physical exam
• Demonstrate good eye-hand-foot coordination, and good spatial perception to enable good judgment of distance for safe and precise passing, braking, and parking

Benefits

• Salary as per the contract between Victor Central Schools and the CSEA Unit
• Starting Rate $22.54 (Negotiable based on experience)
