About the position

The Bus Driver for the Hazelwood School District is responsible for safely transporting students to and from school and related activities. This role requires maintaining the bus in proper operating condition and ensuring student safety and discipline during transit.

Responsibilities

• Transport students of all ages to and from school and extra-curricular activities in a safe and timely manner.
• Conduct and log pre-trip inspections to check for cleanliness, safety, proper mechanical functions, and adequate fuel level.
• Conduct trip inspections after each run to check for vandalism, cleanliness, lost articles, and sleeping children.
• Manage student behavior and maintain discipline on the bus.
• Keep the two-way radio on at all times while the bus is in operation.
• Maintain and track route data as mandated by school and state regulations.
• Report mechanical problems to district mechanics.
• Maintain the confidentiality of students' discipline and medical records.
• Conduct safety drills with students as required by the State.
• Interpret routes and maps and anticipate and report road conditions and hazards.
• Attend monthly safety meetings and comply with District policies and regulations.

Requirements

• Entry-level position with no prior experience required.
• Ability to effectively communicate, verbally and in written form, with students, parents, administrators, staff, and the community.
