About the position

The Bus/Van Driver is primarily responsible for the proper care and maintenance of buses and for the safety of all passengers; works with campus personnel to schedule trips as needed; files proper paperwork for travel; arranges for routine maintenance for vehicles and reports all mechanical problems to supervising campus personnel.

Responsibilities

  • Work with campus personnel to schedule trips as needed.
  • Top off fuel in advance of the next trip.
  • File proper paperwork for travel and per diem reimbursement.
  • Complete a bus maintenance checklist before and after each trip.
  • Arrange for routine maintenance for the vehicle and act as liaison to have the work completed.
  • Assume responsibility for the vehicle and its passengers when behind the wheel.
  • Observe all traffic regulations, follow all safety rules, and exercise good judgment in the operation of the vehicles and as passengers are boarding and exiting the bus.
  • Cleans bus/van daily and assures that all safety devices are in place and in good condition.
  • Performs routine walk-around inspection on the bus before departing.
  • Report any bus malfunctions, defects, mechanical problems, or needed repairs to supervising personnel.
  • Prepares records and basic reports on mileage, refueling records, mechanical malfunction of bus/van, accidents, incidents, etc.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Valid Commercial Driver License (CDL) with proper passenger class qualification.
  • A clean driving accident record.
  • Medical clearance to drive passenger vehicles.

Benefits

  • Salary: $15.60 per hour, $156 per day if over 8 hours but not an overnight trip, or $208 plus per diem for trips requiring a hotel stay for a maximum of 29 hours per week.
