The Bus Driver position at Canal Winchester School District is responsible for safely transporting students and staff on designated routes and during school-related activities. The role includes ensuring the safety and discipline of students while maintaining the bus in good working order. The position requires a valid CDL B with Passenger and School Bus endorsements, and the district offers paid training to help candidates obtain these qualifications.
Responsibilities
- Safely drives a school bus on designated routes during school days.
- Transports students, teachers, and others on field or activity trips.
- Inspects the assigned bus daily to ensure it is in good, clean, and safe working order.
- Cleans and refuels the bus as needed.
- Ensures communication devices are operational before each trip.
- Reports mechanical deficiencies, traffic violations, or accidents promptly.
- Maintains order and discipline among students in accordance with district policies.
- Submits required records and reports.
- Ensures no child is left alone on the bus without adult supervision.
- Inventories bus emergency and first aid supplies and reports needs to the Director.
- Prepares aides and children for bus drills and conducts evacuation drills as required.
- Evacuates children in case of accidents/emergencies according to procedures and completes written reports.
- Attends and participates in training and professional development opportunities.
Requirements
- Current Commercial Driver's License (CDL), class B with Passenger and School Bus Endorsement.
- Motor Vehicle Operator's (DMV) License.
