About the position

The Business Intelligence Developer at Harvard Medical School plays a crucial role in enhancing data-driven decision-making through the development of the Delphi data warehouse. This position involves consulting with various departments to effectively leverage data for operational and reporting needs, providing insightful data visualizations and reports that facilitate informed decisions across the organization.

Responsibilities

  • Design, create, and maintain interactive Tableau dashboards for school-wide reporting.
  • Collaborate with smaller departments to deliver customized reporting solutions.
  • Develop robust Tableau Data sources for larger departments, enabling their Tableau developers to create and manage their own dashboards effectively.
  • Engage with stakeholders to understand their data requirements and reporting needs.
  • Gather and document detailed business requirements for reporting and dashboard solutions.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to create tailored reporting and dashboard solutions that address specific business questions and objectives.
  • Conduct in-depth data analysis to identify trends, patterns, and insights that drive decision-making.
  • Ensure data integrity and quality for all BI reporting and analytics.
  • Administer and manage Tableau Servers, ensuring optimal performance, security, and accessibility for users.
  • Monitor and troubleshoot Tableau Server issues, implementing updates and patches as necessary.
  • Mentor new Tableau users, providing training sessions and resources to enhance their proficiency.
  • Foster a culture of data literacy within the organization by offering ongoing support and guidance.
  • Stay updated on the latest developments in business intelligence tools and technologies, integrating new practices and features into current workflows.

Requirements

  • Minimum of five years' post-secondary education or relevant work experience.
  • Experience in a stakeholder-facing Business Analyst role, with a strong focus on data visualization and reporting.
  • Proficient in SQL and Tableau; candidates may be asked to show a portfolio of previous dashboard and reporting projects.
  • Strong analytical skills and ability to translate complex data into clear, actionable insights.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to work collaboratively across various levels of the organization.
  • A proactive learner with a desire to expand skills by learning new technologies and best practices.
  • Demonstrated team performance skills, service mindset approach, and the ability to act as a trusted advisor.

  • Completion of Harvard IT Academy specified foundational courses (or external equivalent) preferred.
