About the position

The position of School Bus Monitor is a part-time and substitute role within the Transportation Department, with ongoing recruitment. The primary responsibility of the Bus Monitor is to assist in the safe transportation of students to and from school, ensuring proper behavior on the bus and providing support to the bus drivers, especially for handicapped children. The role requires effective communication and problem-solving skills, as well as the ability to work collaboratively in an educational setting. Regular attendance and the ability to lift and assist students are also essential qualifications for this position.

Responsibilities

• Attend meetings as needed
• Follow directives (written, oral, electronic)
• General Bus Monitor assignments
• Assist in transporting pupils safely to and from school daily
• Maintain proper student behavior on bus
• Assist Bus Drivers in loading, transporting, and unloading handicapped children
• Guide children safely across streets and intersections
• Render elementary first aid treatment as needed
• Perform other assigned duties and/or responsibilities deemed appropriate by the supervisor
• Maintain Data Security as applicable
• Maintain confidentiality with staff, student, and family information
• Operate in a respectful, responsible manner

• Qualified to be employed as a School Bus Monitor per Civil Service and NYS Education Department guidelines

Benefits

• Salary as per the contract between Victor Central Schools and the CSEA Unit
• Bus Monitor Substitute Starting Rate for 2024/2025 School Year: $15.50/hour
• Bus Monitor Starting Rate for 2024/2025 School Year: $15.55/hour (Negotiable based on experience)
