About the position
Durango School District 9-R is accepting applications for Bus Monitor in the Transportation Department to assist bus drivers with student supervision while in route, maintain student conduct reports, and assist bus driver with passenger safety during daily routes. This position is 5-7 hrs a day, 25-35/hrs week, Monday-Friday. begins ASAP. The position is part of the Student Support job family and is classified as non-exempt under FLSA.
Responsibilities
- Assist the bus driver in managing student conduct and ensuring passenger safety during daily routes.
- Assist with student needs during transport.
- Monitor student behavior and help set a positive tone.
- Redirect inappropriate behavior.
- Assist students in loading and unloading the bus.
- Load and unload passengers in wheelchairs, strollers, etc. using the bus lift.
- Maneuver chairs on ramps, curbs, and inside buildings.
- Secure passengers' wheelchairs, strollers, etc. and properly fasten all protective safety devices.
- Assist in maintaining emergency card book for passengers.
- Complete and submit required paperwork/documentation and ensure confidentiality of student information.
- Provide written documentation regarding violations of the student code.
- Assist driver with emergency evacuation plans and drills.
- Attend training and other required meetings.
- Assist the driver during emergency situations or mechanical failures; may perform first aid, including CPR.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- None required; experience working with children preferred.
- CPR and First Aid training preferred at hire; required two months after hire.
- Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI) training required within three months of hire.
