About the position

At First Student, we are currently seeking a Monitor/Aide who will play a crucial role in ensuring the safety and well-being of our passengers during transportation. The Monitor/Aide is responsible for providing operational oversight and assisting drivers in the safe operation of their routes. This position is a reflection of our commitment to safety and customer service, and it is essential for maintaining a positive and rewarding work environment. The Monitor/Aide will be expected to know the route thoroughly and remain alert to monitor the welfare of passengers while in transit. This includes communicating any behavior problems and conditions of various stops to the driver, assisting in pre-trip and post-trip inspections of the bus, and helping students during the loading and unloading process. In addition to these responsibilities, the Monitor/Aide will cooperate and communicate effectively with school personnel, students, and parents. Attendance at all safety and training meetings is mandatory, and the Monitor/Aide will also conduct emergency evacuations from the bus, including the use of the emergency exit door. The role requires the ability to open and close service doors and to move up and down steps multiple times throughout the day. Cleaning the inside of the bus and assisting the driver in safely directing the vehicle backwards when necessary are also part of the job. Responsibilities

  • Knows the route and remains alert to monitor the welfare of passengers while in route
  • Communicates behavior problems and conditions of various stops with the driver
  • Assists in pre-trip and post-trip inspections of the bus
  • Assists students in the loading and unloading process
  • Cooperates and communicates with school personnel, students, and parents
  • Attends all safety and training meetings
