About the position

The Bus Operator position at Transdev involves operating a vehicle on assigned routes to transport passengers safely and efficiently within Fairfax County. The role includes performing pre-trip and post-trip inspections, managing fare collection, and ensuring compliance with safety regulations. Operators are expected to maintain a professional appearance and provide excellent customer service while adhering to company policies and local laws.

Responsibilities

• Complete pre-trip inspections prior to pull-out and post-trip inspections following pull-in.
• Log-in to the AVL system prior to scheduled pull-out or start of revenue service.
• Report emergencies, service disruptions, and other occurrences.
• Ensure fare collection and recording of each boarding by fare type.
• Maintain operational fareboxes and log off fareboxes after use.
• Read and understand route sheets, notifying supervisors of any changes.
• Operate two-way communication equipment according to company policy.
• Inspect each vehicle before and after each trip and complete necessary forms.
• Safely operate the vehicle to allow passengers to board and disembark.
• Operate adaptive transportation lift for challenged passengers.
• Maintain a presentable appearance and promote company goodwill.
• Control emergency situations appropriately and report every accident immediately.
• Attend all required training and safety meetings.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Valid driver's license for the past five years with a clean driving record.
• Minimum age of 23 years.
• Proficiency in the English language and ability to read a map.
• Ability to work flexible hours and provide excellent customer service.
• Complete and sign a Transdev employment application in its entirety.

Nice-to-haves

• Experience in Paratransit services.
